Post Game Jam Update

Now that the Game Jam is over, I can finally fix some issues with the game, as well as introducing new features that I wanted from the beginning.

I'll be including a Windows release with this update for better performance.

Changes:

  • Fixed issue in main menu where buttons were still active after clicking New Game.
  • Fixed issues with the aim camera. Now the aim camera matched the rotation of the third person camera.
  • Fixed player movement. Before the update, friction wasn't taken into account when calculating the character velocity, this made the character feel very floaty.
  • Added various sound effects.
  • Added post processing.
  • Added visual effects.
  • Changed visual effects for the Camp Fires.
  • Changed how the aim trajectory and target are rendered.
    • Instead of rendering sprites for the trajectory, now meshes are being used. These meshes are GPU instances, which means they should not impact the performance a lot.
    • The target is now a decal, which means it should not clip to the terrain anymore

Known issues:

  • The new effects for the campfire make the game stutter a lot. I'll be adding a way to disable them in a future update.
  • The target gets rendered on top of the aim trajectory.
  • Step sounds sometimes stop.

Plans for the future:

I really like the concept of this game, and I've gotten a lot of positive feedback, so I'll keep working on it to have a full release.

I already commissioned a new model for the character (from someone who actually knows what they are doing lol) and I'm working on a lot of visual effects.

The idea is to make the platforming feel better and to improve the look of the game, this means redoing all the levels (I'll probably keep the solutions the same for now).

With all the added effects and to open up the possibility to increase the amount of lights in the scene, the future release will probably be focused on windows.
